Mike ‘Twid’ Turner Profile Born on the Wirral, into a mountaineering and climbing family, I have always enjoyed outdoor activities in the mountains and along Britain’s coastline. From these early adventures I developed my skills and enthusiasm for rock climbing, mountain walking and winter climbing across the British mountains. Alpine holidays with my father followed by challenging North Faces and ski journeys gave me the taste for greater adventures. Over the last 30 years I have made over 50 Expeditions to the Greater Ranges, climbing mountains and many Big Walls in remote areas and varying landscapes. My passion is to explore the unknown, push my personal Physical and mental boundaries while enjoying the company of others. Some regions I have explored include: Patagonia, Baffin, Pakistan, Mali, Madagascar, Morocco, Chile, Venezuela, The US, Alaska, Greenland, Iceland, Arctic Norway, Borneo, Mexico and Canadian Rockies.
As a MIC I worked throughout the UK. For 18 years I was a senior member of the PyB staff running skills, training and assessment courses for the UK NGB UKMTB. I specifically trained and accessed on the top British Qualifications the MIA and MIC along with training BMG Guides in the Uk Summer and winter. For over 10 years I was ‘ Head of Rock Climbing’ at the National Centre overseeing coaching and instructional courses at all levels. My time at PYB gave me a great incite into running training and assessment courses.
Guiding presently. Now I live in Huemoz, a small village, in the Swiss Alps, close to the French boarder. Chamonix is 50 minutes drive away as it Arolla, Verbier. I share my life with my wife Louise (formerly Louise Thomas) and my daughter Elin. Louise is also a Mic and Guide and now works for Aiglon College, an International school in Villars.
As an International Mountain Guide I travel the world guiding, coaching and running Instructional courses. My main base of work is throughout the Alps and Uk . I run a range of activities mountaineering, trekking, climbing rock and ice along with a lengthy winter on my skis. Along with the Alps I m also found: ice climbing in the High Atlas and Norway; ski touring in the Arctic; Expeditioning to Alaska; Sports climbing in Greece and climbing Big Walls in South America. If its wet, windy, cold, scorching hot and remote I love it.
